I use Canon supplied tool or 'Image Capture' to download photos to HD, and than rename the photos with ExifRenamer. There are a bunch of batch-renaming utilities out there that make such chores simpler: You give the app a selection of files, and then tell it to rename all of them at once, using some kind of pattern (for example, Add Summer vacation photos 2013 to the beginning of each file’s name). Select the first image of the sequence and then be sure to tick image sequence at the time of import: After a while, your sequence will be available in the Media Explorer and you’ll only have to drag it into the sequence editor on the right. I personally don't import photos into iPhoto directly from cameras. I believe exported photos from iPhoto do retain EXIF data, but not tested to confirm. You'd need to export the photos from iPhoto to a folder, and than use ExifRenamer. Of course you'd never do this inside of iPhoto Library directly. Simply choose a directory, and the photos will be renamed according to the date and time each photo was taken at.

So if you rename all photos using ExifRenamer and organize by moving them into folders based on year like 2009, 2010 (overwrite if prompted), than you've effectively eliminated the duplicates.Ģ. This is a very simple batch photo renaming tool. First, anyone experimenting with any new tools or workflows should have a good backup.
